Sharp Stabbing Pains

B was gone this weekend, off to see the Bears play in San Diego with his father, his next-youngest brother, his mom, and our nephew, Zachary, because, as I've learned by now, football trumps nearly everything, and in-person Bears football in Brandon's former hometown with his family trumps absolutely everything.  So on Saturday when the drugs arrived for our next salvo in the war against childlessness, I had to give myself the shots.  For those of you who don't know, I am the world's biggest needle baby.  I have to turn away when I have blood drawn.  After I broke off the bottoms of my two front teeth in a tragic shower-slipping accident in 1994, I refused to let the dentist give me novacaine before he started sanding them down in preparation for bonding.  So giving myself a shot of anything a big deal.  But I survived.  I like to think it made me a stronger person, but I know that as soon as B gets back tonight I'm going to have him do the rest.

In other triumphant news, I found a REAL coffeehouse in Marquette where I can sit and work.  The bad news: it's been taken over by a local coffeclatch, one of whom stole my chair while I was at the counter getting coffee.  Even the noise-canceling headphones aren't canceling the noise.  Hence the post: I'm not getting a lot done this morning.  But if I go to my office I know I'll work on teaching stuff when I really want to be getting back to my new story, which I'm hugely excited about and which has been sadly neglected while I got the semester going.

Time to turn up the volume.

I've also started reading Kelly Link's Magic for Beginners, which, although I'm not very far into it yet, seems wicked cool.

Magic

I know MSF has read it; anyone else have thoughts?  What other young female writers are working on such badass original stuff, besides Aimee Bender?

Best of luck with the needles and finding time to work on your story between everything.

Oh, I want to read that too. I've heard really good things about it.
