What a gift! Uneventful is the best news!
FYI, you do not have to succumb to any test you don't want. I thought, too, that because of my age this time around, I might have to have an amnio or other invasive test, but my midwife simply showed me the forms I can sign to waive them and told me that many doctors give women the impression that there is no choice in the matter. There is. Also, make sure your doctor is superclear with you about the risks tests such as amnios carry for you and the baby - because they do. And many of these tests will only tell you that genetically the baby may be predispositioned to something, not that it actually even carries the genes in question. Our philosophy has always been that the baby's ours no matter what - and if there's actually something that can be done to help the little one while it's still in utero, give me the test. If not, I'd rather have peace of mind during my also uneventful (though nauseating) pregnancy and we'll deal with what life hands us when the baby's born and we know exactly what that is.
As of 4 p.m. today, the bakery's closed for two weeks - I'll call you in a few days. I can't wait to talk to you!

OK, I think I said that one part wrong - tests may be able to show that fetuses carry certain genes, but cannot always guarantee that those gene combos will actually affect the baby... something like that.

Congratulations! I'm so excited for you guys!! Sorry I haven't commented sooner, but I seem to be post-inept. (I somehow deleted my post each time I tried in the past few weeks.)

Here's to more uneventful good news. You're in my thoughts, always.

Motel Manager

I am so excited to hear the news about the uneventful ultrasound, and I will, of course, be keeping my fingers crossed that all continues to go well!

Cindy

That's wonderful news! Here's hoping for a wonderful 2008 for you and your family. Looks like it's certainly going to get off to a great start.

Kristin

Very good news! I can't believe you're missing out on the snow in the IC!

I just happened on to your blog from a site on the NYT and I wanted to wish you all the best in your "baby biz".

I know by next year you'll be celebrating what-ever-holidays-you celebrate with a little one.

It's one day at a time.

Thanks for the good wishes. All I need is to win the lottery and my year will be complete.

Actually, beckster, I'm having one of those cool high-tech 3-D ultrasounds and a blood test instead of the amnio. But thanks for the heads' up. Hope you're feeling better.

I'm so excited for you guys. No one deserves a wonderful new year and a beautiful, healthy baby more than you two.

Chuckles

Totally awesome!

Apparently, I don't read this blog often enough. Of course, time skips months in my world sometimes.

Laura and I will now commence our good baby thoughts for everyone in Michigan with a "Becky" or "Bekki" type name that we know.

Best to Brandon as well. Keep the good news coming. As others have said, you so deserve it.
