Over the weekend, while we were up in Marquette looking for houses, I finished Adam Haslett's truly outstanding story collection You Are Not a Stranger Here. I can't remember the last time a story collection impressed me so much. The emotional risks here are huge--characters take terrible chances with their lives and hearts--but stories like "Notes to My Biographer" and "The Beginnings of Grief" stayed with me long after I'd closed the book.
Considering how utterly bored I am at the moment with The Tenderness of Wolves, which I was so anxious to read that I paid to have the UK edition shipped here, I gotta say I would go with the Haslett any day.
I absolutely adored Haslett's book--picked it up while visiting the IC last November and couldn't put it down.
Oh, and happy anniversary!

Yes, happy anniversary!
I've been meaning to get to Haslett's book. I guess I better do it sooner rather than later, huh?
