"For a long time I worried whether or not people were going to take me seriously as a writer, if I would earn their respect, and I think it did more harm than good. You can’t control what other people think, and even the most well-respected and lauded authors have their detractors, sometimes vocal and angry ones. You can’t please everyone.
Now I feel like success is defined by how much fun I’m having. If it’s not fun for me, I’m not going to do it anymore."
