Five More Things

I realize I was tagged several days ago by Bihari over at Iowadrift, but I had to finish two enormo freelance jobs this past week first, which necessitated a loss of sleep so massive that I went to bed at 9 p.m. on Friday night.  Now that you have my full attention, here are Five Things About Me You May Not Already Know (Not, I Repeat, Not, Six Things About Me I Have Never Before Revealed on This Blog):

1.  I have not one but TWO station wagons, and no children.

2.  B and I met in high school and stayed together despite living in different time zones for five years (he in California; I in Missouri and then Pennsylvania).  Three years ago we did it again when I was teaching in Northern Michigan for a year.  We've been together for 19 years this month, and married for 12.

3.  We never fight.  Ever.  It's really freaky.

4.  When I was 16 I was in a state beauty pageant (don't laugh! I can hear you laughing!) and won the Speech trophy and a hundred bucks for a one-minute speech I wrote in the car on the drive there.

5.  I once--because I couldn't bear to tell the school basket case to quit calling the house and bugging myself, my younger sisters, and even (at one point) my mother--invented an imaginary older sister for myself.  If I picked up the phone and it was this particular kid, I would pretend to be "Vanessa," the older sister who was already in college but conveniently home whenever he called.  Three years ago, he tracked me down through Classmates and left a message for me on the home machine and asked how "Vanessa" was.  B called me in Northern Michigan and wanted to know what the hell kind of strange man was leaving messages for me, and who the hell was Vanessa, anyway?

Now that we've passed the TMI threshold, I would like to tag, if it's not too irritating, BabelBabe at Behind the Stove, B at Circle Jerk, and Adorable Girlfriend at Republic of Dogs.  Go to it, kids!

Tagged

Am now in full obsession mode about why the secret-agent hotline remains silent, as on Tuesday by this time of day I had an answer.  Meanwhile, I have been tagged by the Motel Manager and thought I'd get to that post at last:

1. Deodorant.  Umm, I use it?  Every day?

2. Throwback.  Some days I feel like one.  Actually this reminds me of the time I went fishing with my sister in the crappy little lake near our house when I was growing up, and she caught a very tiny and nearly translucent bluegill.  I told her to throw it back, but she insisted on taking it home and cooking it.  It was about the size of a quarter. 

3. Period.  Got mine at 10 years old and it freaked me out.  The less said about this, the better.  Period.

4. Blossom.  Related to the above two anecdotes, I developed breasts at nine years old and had to be taken to the doctor (by my father!  the humanity!) who, because I was the oldest and because I was officially Too Young For Breasts, thought there might be something wrong.  Had to endure years of crap from both younger sisters about the appearance of the girls.  Sisters have conveniently forgotten about this incident.

I hereby refuse to tag anyone else with this meme, because most of the people I know in blogland have done it already and because I now need to call the hotline again.  Luckily for all of you.
